Envelope Manufacturer Buck the Economic Trend

The Envelope Works have just been featured in an article at Print Week explaining how they, as an envelope manufacturer, have bucked the economic trend, as follows:

An envelope manufacturer has bucked the economic trend by increasing its turnover from £500,000 to £4m over seven years.

Lancashire-based Envelope Works said it has won 100 new clients in each of the last three years, including 40 since February, and that it was now producing 275,000 litho-printed envelopes per hour and supplying in excess of 1bn per year.

The increased volumes pushed turnover to £400,000 in March.

The company purchased new premises 18 months ago after previously renting, but said that it was already outgrowing its new building. It now plans to build a sales extension and production office and to take on an additional 12 sales staff over the next three years. It has recently appointed Mary Drury, who has come from SCR Envelopes, as sales manager.

Envelope Works managing director Mark Farrimond, who took over the company seven years ago, said:

“We are working very hard on marketing the business and we have developed a fantastic new website. We work closely with factories across the whole of Europe and we aim to offer the best European price. We offer immediate access to 150m envelopes.”

Farrimond added that company was aiming to expand further by developing its sales team.

“I am still only 40% of the way along my initial business plan. The plan is to get new sales staff on board with different areas of expertise so that we have a diverse team.” He said.
