If you could invite any 4 people to a dinner party who would they be and why?
It would probably be someone really embarrassing like Westlife which I shouldn’t really admit but I guess everyone has their flaws. I guess at least they could provide the entertainment.
What is your best Childhood memory?

If you could invite any 4 people to a dinner party who would they be and why?

It would probably be someone really embarrassing like Westlife which I shouldn’t really admit but I guess everyone has their flaws. I guess at least they could provide the entertainment.

What is your best Childhood memory?

My best childhood memory would be spending time with my grandma and sister, we always used to spend new year’s eve together and just sit watching the fireworks on TV being a little girl it always seemed so exciting.

If you weren’t in the envelope industry what would your dream job be?

My dream job would be a primary school teacher.

If you could time travel, where would you go to and why?

I would probably go to 2023 just to see what my life is like in ten years and what I have achieved (hopefully I wouldn’t be disappointed).

What film do you enjoy watching the most?

My favourite film would be Armageddon. I definitely love the tear jerkers and this has to be the best.

Life is…?

Only as good as you make it.

What was your first ever record?

I didn’t buy it but when I was born my mom bought me Madonna- Like a prayer because it was number one when I was born.

What was your first ever car?

My first car was a rusty white Nissan Micra (I use the term white very loosely as it was more brown from all the rust).

What was your first ever car?

What is the most obscure or remote airport travel destination you’ve ever been to?

What is your best childhood memory?

I loved my whole childhood but the majority of it was spent training and competing in swimming pools so my most vivid memory is probably the smell of Chlorine!

A dolphin trainer! I swam with them in Mexico a few years ago and it had always been a childhood dream of mine.

What is the most obscure or remote airport travel destination you’ve ever been to?

I’ve been to Riviera Maya in Mexico and more recently, New York but never anywhere I’d consider obscure.

What was your first ever car?

My Dad bought me a Ford KA which I even named Frankie Ford, only for him to ring me up and tell me he had a buyer for it! Easiest £600 I’ve ever made!

I couldn’t possibly pick just one film, I have too many favourites which I do watch over and over again. I like the Bourne films, Man on Fire, The Usual Suspects, Save The Last Dance, Despicable Me and Matilda to name a few.

What film do you enjoy watching the most?

The standard is the culmination of months of planning at The Envelope Works, led by Adrian Booth, the company’s Operations Manager, as he explains below:

“For several years now we’ve operated to our own comprehensive internal quality system, which has proved extremely effective in ensuring our production processes are of a consistently high quality, however it was always a goal of ours to ensure the framework was externally recognised through the ISO framework.

It was extremely pleasing to see how little we had adjust to attain the ISO standard and how seamless the process of certification has been.”

In every department of The Envelope Works, whether it is Warehousing and Logistics, Print, Design, Purchasing and Sales & Account Management, the company has endeavoured to systemise every action that plays a part in the production process, placing incredible amounts of focus on even the smallest aspects of the production cycle.
Mark Farrimond (M.D. of The Envelope Works) explained how the company’s ISO certification sends out an important message to Clients:

“Our Clients already understand the importance we place on the quality of our end product, yet to have that message externally ratified through the ISO standard gives everyone even more confidence to know that when they place an order with us, it will be managed in a way that will deliver a consistently high-quality end result.

The ISO9001:2008 certification sends out a clear message that The Envelope Works has an infrastructure that can cope with any volume or specification of envelope order.”

If you would like to see the management systems of The Envelope Works in operation and see how the company can manage your annual envelope requirements, please come and visit the company’s new purpose-built plant, which was built less than 24months ago.

I am the Sales Manager at The Envelope Works, responsible for our amazing sales team and have had the pleasure of playing a key role within the company’s recent history where we’ve experienced fantastic growth and success.

I joined The Enveloped Works in 2008, having been in envelope over-printing now for nearly 19 years and in 2010 I was very proud to take up my role as Sales Manager.

If you weren’t in the envelope industry what would your dream job be?

My dream job would be one of two things…

To play centre forward for Manchester United and England, but unfortunately my left foot wasn’t as good as my right one when I was younger when I used to play quite a bit, so that put and end to that!

Alternatively I would have loved to be an architect as I’m quite creative and the thought of designing all sorts of buildings that have a daily impact on people’s lives would be very fulfilling.

What was your first ever record?

I clearly remember being given some Woolworths tokens for Christmas one year and using them to buy ‘Adam Ant’s Prince Charming Album’ and ‘Now That’s What I call Music 1,’ both on vinyl.

Wow, Woolworths tokens and vinyl…I’m starting to show my age!!!

If you could invite any 4 people to a dinner party who would they be and why?

That’s a tough one as there are lots of people I’d like to meet and talk to, but my 4 would probably be:

Alfred Hitchcock – I’m a big admirer of his films and it would be great to discuss some of his films with him like ‘Rear Window’, ‘Vertigo’, ‘North by North West,’ but also get an insight into the mind that made these dark cinema master-pieces and what it was like to work with so many big Hollywood names.

Jack Nicholson – He’s one of my favourite actors and has lived life to the full, so boy would he have some amazing funny stories to tell over the course of the meal!

Julius Cesar – It would be amazing to be able to talk to someone who could tell me what Rome was really like (in its pomp) and also to speak to a man who lived over 2000 years ago, yet who made such a huge impression on the world that hundreds of years later after his death he is still talked about on a daily basis.

Ian Brown – Simply because he’s the lead singer of the Stone Roses, who are my favourite band of all time and I’ll love to be able to ‘talk music’ with him.

What is your best Childhood memory?

My best childhood memory would be of my little red peddle car and how I spent hours and hours driving it around my mum and dad’s house, or being outside and driving it around my dad’s vegetable plot and our garden. I was inseparable from it for years until I out grew it.

What is the most obscure or remote airport travel destination you’ve ever been to?

Montevideo in Uruguay, where I went for my Dad’s 50th Birthday. Also at the same time, my sister was an ice skater in ‘Holiday on Ice’ and her show was in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

So myself and my mum and dad went over for a week in Montevideo, which had the most beautiful beaches, before going to Buenos Aires for another week to meet with my sister and for the family to be together for my dad’s birthday.

What film do you enjoy watching the most?

My most watched film would be the original Star Wars – I was obsessed with it when I was a child and at one point knew every word of the film.

These days, the film I always watch every time it’s on TV, no matter how many times I’ve seen it in the past and even though I have it on Blue Ray is ‘Where Eagles Dare’.

Clint Eastwood, Richard Burton, Michael Hordern, Donald Houston are in the cast – it’s full of great action (how many times has the cable car scene been copied but never bettered in other films) and with so many twists and turns in the script, it keeps you guessing right up until the end! PLUS, you’ll be humming the theme tune for days.

If you could time travel, where would you go to and why?

I think it would have to be ancient Rome as I’ve read a lot about the Romans and the likes of Cesar, Crassus, Pompey, Mark Antony and Brutus.

I just think it would be amazing to see this incredible civilisation at the peak of its powers. To be able to go in the Colosseum and see it in all its grandeur along with the forum. They’re impressive today but back then they would have just been spectacular.

What was your first ever car?

My first car was a Mark 3 VW Golf 1.4 3 door in Dragon Green. It only had one speaker in it when I bought it, so by the time I’d upgraded the stereo and put some more speakers in the car I think the sound system cost more than the car did!

Life is…?

Best when I’m spending quality time with my family and friends.

In every department, whether it is Warehousing and Logistics, Print, Design, Purchasing and Sales & Account Management, the company boasts an unrivalled level of experience.

One such example is Michael Jackson who has worked in the UK envelope market for over 18years.

Michael’s experience has been instrumental in the development of a number of major national accounts for The Envelope Works, including Plumbs Soft Furnishings and Hoseasons.

Preston based Plumbs print anywhere between 300,000 and 600,000 envelopes a month, ranging from standard DL gum-window wallets to C5 CBC (customer bar code) windows. In addition, there is a continual need for specialist envelopes to meet the need for regular direct mail campaigns.

With four-colour print on both sides, the need for a quality finish is paramount.

“I have dealt with Envelope Works for a number of years and I have always found them to be helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable about their product. They produce work to a high printing standard, on a consistent basis and on time. I don’t have to look any further than Envelope Works for all my Envelope requirements.”
Plumbs

Hoseasons Group, the family-focused holiday operator, prints well over ½ million envelopes each year, mainly C5’s and DL’s, but also a number of specials and flatsheets. The company are based in Earby, the same town as The Envelope Works, which enables both parties to maintain a very close relationship.

‘We have found The Envelope Works to be a very efficient. It’s great to have a high quality supplier like The Envelope Works based, literally, just around the corner from us. The quality of their product is excellent, deliveries are on time and their customer service and account handling is friendly and efficient.’
Hoseasons Group

When a company has an experienced team it vastly increases the level of service they are able to provide, as Mark Farrimond (M.D. of The Envelope Works) accurately sums up:

“The experience of your staff has to be the key selling feature of a company. It means that you are coming from a position where your staff have ‘been there and done that’ on so many occasions. We’re fortunate that our team has the experience to see things before they happen, which helps to avoid any potential errors or problems. Our clients know that no matter what their envelope requirements are, our team will be able to deliver a solution that meets their budget, quality and timeframe.”

Mark Farrimond (M.D. of The Envelope Works)

It was an honour for the Group to have been chosen as one of only three companies in the world and the only organisation in Europe, to work as a partner with W & D to test their latest W+D 234 D, Digital Inkjet printing press. The Group has been conducting ‘behind the scenes’ testing with the Printer since April 2012.

This investment is part of the on-going investment strategy being made by the Group in order to maintain its position as the leading envelope producer in the UK.

Mark Farrimond, MD of The Envelope Works, explains the unique benefits of the machine:

“Not only can the W+D 234 D produce 30,000 full colour envelopes per hour – it can also personalise each envelope with bespoke messages and images.

As a direct marketing solution, this machine is ideal, as it enables the entire product to be personalised – not just the contents.

With the way we are seeing the envelope / direct mail market develop, into less high volume and more targeted / segmented mailers, this is the ideal solution.”

Stephan Peters, Director at Printing Partners, added these further comments:

“There are companies who can produce the same product, but not in this speed or with this level or quality.

This machine is industrial-grade, fast and affordable. The printer offers the opportunity to produce variable quantities at a high print quality.”

At the DRUPA convention Winkler and Dunnebier introduced the W&D 234 D, Digital Inkjet Printing Press:

“The W+D 234 D is an industrial-grade, high-speed 4 colour ink-jet envelope overprint press. It was developed specifically for envelope manufacturing companies, traditional envelope printers, inserters, printshops, letter shops, direct mailers, transactional printers and advertising agencies.

It suits companies seeking to take advantage of the growing demand for personalized direct mail and a more efficient solution for rapidly declining batch or job sizes. The W+D 234 D press will support a wide range of envelope sizes and runs at speeds up to 30,000 different full colour envelopes an hour.”

The maximum print width is set be extended in the very near future and the machine will be made suitable for a greater variety of paper qualities, at the moment the best print quality is achieved on smooth paper. This print quality meets all the requirements customers have for their professional mailings.
Features:

Print width 108 mm / 220 mm ( 4.25” / 8.66”)

Native print resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi

(with 4 grey levels). Equivalent to 1000 dpi resolution

Variable data (csv-files) and graphics

Printing all common barcodes and 2D-Tags

Selectable ICC profiling by user with optional software for custom profiles

Client awareness of Royal Mail Regulations is Hit and Miss

Royal Mail has announced further changes to postage rates, sizes and weights, making the successful execution of even the simplest direct mail campaigns a headache for even the most experienced print or marketing professional.

With an increasing number of companies turning back to direct mail to create an innovative and meaningful client connection, plus escape the increasing clutter of email marketing, the changes have come at an unwelcome time.

Envelope, print and mail specialist, The Envelope Works, has re-structured their team to guide companies with this issue with Stuart Farrimond becoming our in-house Royal Mail advisor, as Managing Director Mark Farrimond explains:

“The number of times Clients express to me that they were just left on hold or passed from one department to another – I can only imagine how frustrating that must be.

We’re not talking about Clients who don’t execute mailings on a regular basis – these are all experienced companies.

Yet, the current changes are baffling people, it appears that the complexity of understanding the regulations, in their entirety, is the bit that is particularly confusing.

Most importantly, the new regulations could mean that if campaigns are not addressed and allocated the correct postage, they may be rejected at the sorting office – yet, the client will still receive a bill from Royal Mail and simply assume that it was delivered and that it didn’t generate the desired response.”

In all, with continued pressure facing companies to ‘control costs’ and ‘create differentiation’ it is important that every aspect of a direct mail campaign is managed as thoroughly as possible.

Further Advice:

If you wish to gain more information on how the Royal Mail regulations could impact your future mailings, please contact The Envelope Works on (01282) 444 920.

With the envelope / direct mail market requiring faster turnaround’s to meet the ever increasing needs for instant campaign send outs, coupled with our desire to keep raising our print standards to ensure the envelopes of our Clients always stand out and give them the brand presence they are seeking, this was a natural investment for our company to make.”
